The General Workers’ Union yesterday complained after a Bank of Valletta employee who served in a minister’s secretariat returned to his previous job.

The union insisted the man should not be given work in a higher grade than the one he was in when he left.

Criticising the bank CEO’s discretion “to make best use of any experience attained by the person”, who the union did not name, it said BOV should follow normal procedures whereby employees had to apply to be promoted.

“The union is aware of other possible cases that may crop up in the near future with people seconded to ministries who may be considered for upgrade on their return,” it said.

The GWU said it would be advising its members on the appropriate action they could take.
