This is an open letter to whoever is responsible for the pavement works around the parvis of St Gregory the Great parish church in Sliema.

These works were started towards the end of January this year. Two strips of pavement, one in Nicolo Isouard Street, the other in Norfolk Street, are still very much unfinished.

This procrastination is causing great hardship and danger to the elderly residents and churchgoers especially during the evening and night hours.

Some elderly parishioners have even fallen over the kerb, which is higher than the now cemented base.

Some parts of the unfinished pavement are littered with gravel stones on which people could slip.

Those who of necessity use a walking stick or frame fear walking on the unfinished pavement and have no option but to step down into the road and risk being knocked down by passing vehicles. I appeal to those concerned with these works to get them completed in the shortest possible time.
