I refer to Carm Farrugia’s letter of January 24 under the title ‘Innovative financing’. I have recently been through an experience that is similar to his.

At our summer residence in St Paul’s Bay, we also had the smart meter installed very early on.

An estimated reading that was made on December 5, 2013, for the period June 27, 2013 to December 5, 2013, had on it the remark ‘Very high’ for consumption of both electricity and water – indicating an abnormal reading.

When this incorrect reading was queried by e-mail to ARMS Ltd on the same day, December 5, no reply was sent until five weeks later. A reminder was sent on January 13, 2014 after which an automated reply was received informing me that a full explanation would be given to my query later. To date, no other communication has been received.

It is worth noting that the summer residence was used from beginning of July to end of September 2013 with nobody residing there afterwards. Besides, when in residence, the use of electricity and water has always been prudent and economical.

So, like Farrugia, I would also say ‘innovative financing’ indeed!
