The registered unemployed increased by 332 in May over the same month in 2011, official statistics show.

The statistics reveal an overwhelmingly masculine unemployment register with almost four out of every five of the 6,698 people looking for a job being male. In line with past trends, most men on the unemployment register sought work in the services, sales and craft industries. Women were more interested in clerical jobs.

There was a slight increase in long-term unemployment, with those having been out of work for longer than a year increasing by 83 over May 2011.
