A total of 7,446 voting documents remained uncollected by Wednesday night, which works out as 2.2 per cent of the 333,006 registered voters.

In 2008, a total of 6,300 documents remained uncollected by the same time, equivalent to two per cent of the 315,357 registered voters in that election.

Documents continued to be collected until midnight yesterday and a final figure was to be released this morning.

The electoral commission yesterday warned people against impeding or preventing anyone from voting freely during tomorrow’s election.

Polling stations for general and local council elections will be open between 7am and 10pm without interruption.
