David Lidington MP, the UK’s Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, will lead a public dialogue on the financial challenges facing Europe at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta on Tuesday at 10 a.m.
The event is organised by the Malta-EU Steering and Action Committee, MEUSAC, and the British High Commission.
Mr Lidington, who will be here for talks with government officials, will give an introduction before a question and answer session with participants. Proceedings will be recorded for TVM 2.
Addressing a meeting of the UK and German EU affairs committees in London on June 25, Mr Lidington described the challenges and opportunities in the EU today.
They include promoting growth through increased competition and better targeting of EU structural funds; completing the single market, particularly in the digital and services industries; generating employment; promoting free trade and research; reducing the regulatory burden, especially for SMEs; regulating financial markets; and tackling climate change and encouraging sustainable development.
