A five-day study tour to western Sicily, under the academic direction of Mario Buhagiar and history of art lecturer Charlene Vella, was recently organised for University of the Third Age (U3A) students and culturally oriented guest participants.

Participants saw Greek architecture in Segesta, late medieval wall-paintings, Renaissance works of art, including the Gagini and Antonello da Messina School, as well as museums, including the Museo Regionale Agostino Pepoli in Trapani and the Museo Nazionale in Palermo housed in the Palazzo Abatellis.

The group also visited the Benedictine Abbey Church and Cloister of Monreale and the Cappella Palatina in the Palazzo dei Normanni in Palermo.
