The Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin is insisting it represents child carers, challenging a claim made in court by the teacher’s union.
The Malta Union of Teachers last week filed an application asking the court to stop the Foundation for Educational Services from negotiating a new collective agreement for child carers with the UĦM.
The issue strictly must be tackled by the Industrial Tribunal not by the First Hall ofthe Civil Court
In the application, filed against the foundation, the Education Ministry and the UĦM, the MUT said discussions continued despite its request for recognition.
In its reply, the UĦM said the issue was strictly one which had to be tackled by the Industrial Tribunal and not by the First Hall of the Civil Court. Moreover, it insisted it enjoyed the sole recognition of all FES employees.
Lawyer Ian Spiteri Bailey, acting for the UĦM, said the requirements for an injunction had not been satisfied and the MUT’s request should be rejected.
Lawyers Michael and Rebekah Tanti-Dougall appeared for MUT.
