The Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin will not take part in a verification exercise at Arrow Pharm, claiming a breach of trade union ethics.

The manufacturing company is planning to lay off about 100 workers. The General Workers Union last month requested union recognition from the management.

The UĦM said the understanding among unions had always been that whenever severance pay was being negotiated, other unions would not ask for recognition or verification exercises.

“This understanding has been broken,” the UĦM said in a letter to the Prime Minister. Calling it a serious precedent, it appealed for his intervention to re-establish balance and avoid upsetting the equilibrium of the economy and industrial peace.
