Maltese sailors will again participate in this year’s RS Feva dinghy class World Championships which are being staged in Italy.

Two teams, consisting of Mifsud siblings Andrew and Michaela, and Mattea Ciantar and Anthony El Khazmi, will be racing in the annual regatta in Grosseto between July 19 and 26.

The RS Feva class continues to gain popularity in Europe. After its introduction in Malta, local sailors and instructors have made significant progress in its handling and performance.

At last year’s championships in Hayling Island, UK, the Mifsuds placed a creditable fifth in the Silver Class and during the Euromed Championship, held at Mellieħa Bay in December, Maltese sailors produced a fine showing to challenge the more-quoted British teams for the major honours.

The Malta RS Feva Association, an organisation set up recently and affiliated to the Malta Sailing Federation, are assisting sailors in their training ahead of the trip to Grosseto with the help of the Birżebbuġa Sailing Club.

In a statement, the association augured the best for its sailors, wishing them an enriching experience in Italy which they can share with other promising local sailors.

The association showed its appreciation to the Birżebbuġa Sailing Club and their instructor Neil Borg, as well as to Paul Debono, of Fairwind Sailing at Portomaso. He provided his facilities and experience in the preparation.
