Science students at St Ignatius College Girls Junior Lyceum, Blata l-Bajda, recently won two first prizes in as many weeks.

They placed first in the video category of the ‘Young Reporters for the Environment’ competition and in the secondary schools’ category of an e-twinning project.

In the first competition, they produced a video clip suggesting ways by which to reduce pollution.

They had been working on this project since last October, investigating water, electricity and gas bills in their homes .

They discussed how they could reduce that consumption by making lifestyle changes. These ideas were printed on handouts and distributed to all students at the school.

The video clip can be watched at tinyurl.com/69cc8wz.

In the e-twinning competition, the students presented a project entitled ‘Caustic’.

They were joined by students from Sibiu, Romania, and from Antonio Paccinotti, Taranto, Italy.

The groups shared their science experiments by filming and uploading them onto a common website. The project can be viewed at http://new-twinspace.etwinning.net/web/p35676 .
