Two men were yesterday charged in separate cases with threatening their former partners on Sunday.

The men, who are not being named to protect the identity of the women, pleaded not guilty.

In one case, a 33-year-old man from Żejtun denied making the threats on a mobile phone against the woman he used to live with.

Magistrate Marseann Farrugia remanded him in custody.

In a second arraignment, a 38-year-old man from Birkirkara denied threatening to kill his estranged wife in an incident where he chased her down the road, and denied being in possession of a knife.

Magistrate Farrugia granted him bail against a personal guarantee of €5,000 and issued a protection order for the alleged victim.

She told him he was not to contact his wife or their children until judgment had been passed.
