Timely intervention by the police yesterday led to the arrest of two men who broke into around eight cars parked outside the Ta’ Qali stadium.
A traffic policeman about to clock off from his shift received a tip-off that two men were smashing car windows and stealing items from the parking area outside the stadium during the crunch match between Valletta and Hibernians.
The policeman immediately informed the mobile squad and went on site only to find several cars with broken windows and various items – such as mobile phones and car stereos – scattered on the ground.
The police officers patrolled the surrounding area and spotted two suspicious men in the picnic area that fitted the description. The men from Birkirkara were arrested.
