A truck carrying scrap material pulled down three poles and a number of overhead cables in Valletta Road, Luqa, yesterday morning, cutting off one resident’s electricity supply.

Its cargo got entangled in the wires, snapping two wooden poles and blocking the road.

Cables belonging to telecoms companies Go and Melita were damaged. An Enemalta spokesman said the pulled cables did not belong to the energy firm as those were hanging at a higher level, seven metres above the ground.

However, electricity cables were damaged as a result of the cables below being pulled. A nearby Enemalta electricity pole was also bent.

Due to the damage, power to one Enemalta customer was temporarily interrupted.

Works to replace the pole and cables started immediately and were expected to be completed by last night. The cost of the damage will be determined once all works are completed.

Police are investigating who is responsible for the damage.
