The treasurer of King’s Own Band Club in Valletta was given a suspended jail term for siphoning off €15,000.

Marvic Borg, 34, of Valletta, admitted to misappropriating the cash from the club’s account between March 2013 and this February.

He had access to the account from which he took amounts without authorisation until committee members noticed what was happening.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke noted that the amount stolen could exceed €15,000.

Mr Borg was given a 13-month jail term, suspended for three years. He was given six months to repay €15,000.

Police Inspector Godwin Scerri prosecuted. Lawyer Paul Borg Olivier appeared for Mr Borg.
