A proposed European transaction tax could end up cutting overall tax revenues rather than generating extra funds, according to a new study reviewed in The Financial Times (January 10).

Even early years students of economics are familiar withthe economic curve pitting a rise in price with a decrease in demand; a scenario which has a greater propensity of coming about at a time of recession when disposable income is decreasing.

But why am I, a common citizen, voicing this concern and people with more letters, or institutions behind their names keeping mum?
