During this local council election campaign I noticed that both political parties have put the islands of St Paul as their main focal point but the problem is that the islands of St Paul do not form part of our locality but that of our neighbouring friends, Mellieħa. Sad but true this agenda has never been taken seriously.

I sincerely hope that, maybe, some new blood within the local council can fight this argument till the end and bring the patronage of the islands to our locality, as it should be.

With all due respect to Mellieħa, they were never interested in these islands because they have no value whatsoever to them. Throughout the years they managed to resurface the whole town, even changed the drainage system, and an old chapel located on these islands was left to disintegrate without any intervention. They keep them just to prove a point, but that’s about it.

St Paul’s Islands should rightfully form part of the locality of St Paul’s Bay

We need somebody who is able to shake the ground for them.

The islands have a sentimental and religious value for us residents of St Paul’s Bay. We must restore them as a national monument and give them the place that they deserve. They should not be left dark at night and abandoned by all.

I feel they must be on the first next agenda and I urge every body to join (including our parish church) and support the idea of seeing the islands of St Paul forming part of our locality as they should rightfully be.
