Franco Debono was wise when he did not vote in favour of the no-confidence motion presented by the Opposition. However, his persistent threats to the government and, in particular, the Prime Minister are neither wise nor honourable. His personal attacks on certain ministers are, to say the least, disdainful. Also, his fixation on the “oligarchy” is out of place and certainly out of order, for it is not up to him to decide what type of government the Prime Minister runs; unless, of course, he assumes the prime ministerial role himself.

Dr Debono would do well if he contains himself and works prudently within the guidelines of his party in government without threatening the stability of the government and fomenting an unnecessary crisis in the country, thereby hindering further national progress at a time when we all need to be vigilant against the dangers looming on the European and, indeed, global horizons.

I trust he is intelligent and mature enough to realise this. That would be wise and truly honourable.
