Traffic congestion makes drivers frustrated. There must be easier ways to go from one place to another and with less inconvenience. People today are too concerned with luxury.
Most workers use their own car and even students prefer to use personal transport, seeming to forget they will soon find themselves in a traffic jam.
When I was a student at the Żebbuġ primary school in Gozo, over 50 years ago, the teachers would come from different localities in shared cars, with the driver changing on a weekly basis.
Perhaps, in the Budget on Monday, owners of motorcycles with a capacity below 200cc could have their licence fee waived or, at least, reduced.
Another possible way to get workers and students to use alternative means of transport is to introduce easy routes on minibuses from core areas.
I am confident the above three approaches would surely reduce congestion and pollution.
And, of course, when the new public transport operator takes over, the service needs to be more efficient and punctual, otherwise the probable increase in fares would only discourage people from using the buses.
