Three people had a miracle escape when their car plunged into the sea in Valletta on Wednesday night.

They managed to force their way out of the vehicle and clamber onto the rocks.

They were two women, aged 59 and 40, from Gżira and Ta’ Xbiex and an Englishman from Floriana.

Police were alerted and found the survivors from the Opel Corsa in an area known as Jews Sally Port, known as Il-Fossa at about 1 a.m.

They were taken to hospital to be treated for injuries.

Officers said the women are still being treated but they are not in any danger.

Investigations into the case continue.
