The traditional three-course dinner party appears to be doomed, according to research.

A survey of 2,000 UK adults showed that two out of three have stopped serving a formal meal when entertaining guests. More than two-thirds of those questioned by New Zealand wine brand Brancott Estate said sharing plates of food was a more informal and enjoyable way to spend an evening with friends.

Food and drink commentator Rebecca Seal said: “The research shows that home cooks and their guests are ready to try a new and adventurous dinner party experience.”
