St Martin’s Institute of IT is organising a seminar open to the general public entitled ‘Who is spying through the devices in your pocket?’
The seminar will be held on June 15 at 6 p.m. at St Martin’s Foundation, Schembri Street, Ħamrun.
Two eminent professors will be speaking during the seminar.
Speaker Keith Martin is director of the Information Security Group at Royal Holloway, University of London.
His current research interests include key management, cryptographic applications and securing lightweight networks.
He is the author of the recently published Everyday Cryptography by Oxford University Press and is an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Information Theory in the areas of complexity and cryptography.
As well as conventional teaching, Prof. Martin is a designer and module leader on Royal Holloway’s distance learning M.Sc. Information Security programme.
His presentation is entitled ‘The little thief in your pocket: cybercrime and mobile devices’. During his presentation, he will highlight recent and emerging threats to mobile devices.
The second speaker is Gerhard Hancke. Dr Hancke is currently a Fellow with the Information Security Group (ISG) at Royal Holloway, University of London.
His main interest is the security of smart tokens and their applications, embedded/pervasive systems and mobile platforms.
During his presentation, entitled ‘What’s in your wallet? Security of everyday smart tokens’, Dr Hancke will be dealing with the integration of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology into numerous systems such as payment cards, travel and event tickets, access control cards and travel documents that we use every day.
