A lone barefaced thief made off with a small amount of money after he surprised the owner of a Sta Venera tool shop yesterday.

The police said the theft from the shop in St Joseph High Street occurred when a man enquired about the price of various items. As the owner listed the prices, the thief went behind the counter, pushed the owner, went straight to the cash register, grabbed the money and ran out. No one was injured. The police said some cheques were also stolen.
