A Sliema minimarket employee’s face was slashed by a man who was stealing items yesterday afternoon.

The police said the 34-year-old foreigner was injured when he tried to stop a man he noticed taking items and putting them in the dark-coloured jacket he was wearing.

The thief then ran away from Al Madina Cash and Carry, on Colonel Savona Street, and the victim was treated at Mater Dei Hospital.

The police said the thief, believed to be in his 20s, was eventually identified and was helping them in their investigations.
