Theatre troupe Zararti Cultural Foundation will be performing in Israel next month.

The troupe will present a commedia dell’arte farce called Youth Potion for Arlecchino. One of the characters is the bluffer Capitano. He brings with him a magic youth potion he found in Ali Baba’s cave.

Pantalone, the old miser, and all the lovers who all want to look younger, muddle up the proper recipe for the potion, resulting in some “hilarious consequences” according to the troupe.

Before they leave for Israel the troupe will give three performances at the folk festival Żejt iż-Żejtun on Saturday.

They will then perform in a circus show called Ċirku Kwadru (or the Square Circus) at the Catholic Institute in Floriana on October 15 and 16.

Zararti will then visit the Arab/Hebrew Theatre International Children’s Drama Festival in Jaffa, Israel on October 21, 22 and 23.

Four Maltese actors, Malcolm Vella King, Sean Briffa, Larissa Bonaci and Marvic Doughty, will alternate with Narcy Calamatta in interpreting the mask of Pantalone. Israeli actress Almog Pail will also perform with the troupe.

The play that will be performed in Israel will be a modified version based mostly on mime and clowning routines to cater for the very young audience.
