I am writing in support of Adrian Buckle’s very reasonable suggestion that theatre productions be reviewed in this paper even when they are performed on just one weekend.
Productions at our so-called national theatre, the Manoel, save those of Staġun Teatru Malti, are being limited to just one weekend, thus excluding them from receiving written reviews. Why is this paper following this policy?
Our theatre people, many of whom have now reached maturity, are always eager to know what an experienced reviewer has thought of their show. Both good and bad reviews are useful to the intelligent performer and can lead to an increasing standard in quality.
If the Times of Malta is worried about space problems on its pages, it might perhaps consider limiting most reviews to, say, 600 words in length.
