One’s will is always a very delicate issue. We are all free to choose how our possessions will be distributed after we die but I think certain people are subject to great abuse.

People who come to mind are those who have no immediate family and the vulnerable. These people deserve protection from those who show up towards the end of their life and, coincidentally, end up in their will later on.

When a will of a vulnerable person has been done and left untouched for many years there would be reason to suspect foul play if this is changed when that person is reaching the end of his/her life. People with bad intentions hunt for the vulnerable and one cannot fight them back since there are no regulations that protect defenceless people.

May I suggest that when a change of will is registered by a person susceptible to abuse because of age and no immediate family, assistance is given to double check the intentions and ensure the person has a sound state of mind.

Fighting the validity of a will is very difficult once a person dies. So let’s protect these people before they fall victim to ruthless individuals who take advantage of the weakness of a person.

We all heard some similar story and it is time to intervene to try to minimise abuse.

Society has a duty to do this.
