The appointment of Anġlu Farrugia as Speaker seems to be a contradiction in terms to a number of people, especially those with a PN physiognomy. Perhaps the Labour leader understands team building better than the average Maltese business or political leader.

The theory of team building says that for a team to perform well it has to go through four stages: forming, storming, norming and performing. If the storming stage is skipped, peak performance is not reached.

Storming is not a comfortable process as it means disputes and confrontation. One can skip it and pretend we are all good friends.

Looking at the way in which the Labour leadership is operating, it seems to be embracing the processes necessary to build a high-performing parliamentary team.
