For the PN, Malta has always been for all of us. For the PN, it is not only Malta but equally Europe that is for all of us. It was thanks to the vision and perseverance of former Prime Minister Eddie Fenech Adami that, notwithstanding the strong resistance of the PL, Malta is one of the best and most respected member States of the EU. This is very rightly being continuously emphasised by PN deputy leader Simon Busuttil.

As he is also stressing, the leadership qualities of politicians are marked by the interaction between foresight and decision-making. There is a striking contrast between the harsh anti-Europe stand and the challenging journey towards Europe culminating so far in the package of over €1 billion brilliantly negotiated by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi. It is a fact that this and all the other EU benefits would have been non-existent had not the people voted for the PN, the party that was consistently promoting this advantageous option for all.

Another case in point regarding foresight versus hindsight when it comes to political decisions is Gonzi’s impeccable handling of the Libya crisis.

In most instances, the PL is synonymous with recognition of realities after their occurrence and this is one of the reasons why – again as Busuttil points out – the PL is not armed with answers to most questions posed on the various issues affecting the people.

Is it worth it that one persists in concentrating on personal disappointments and consequently suffer all the possible repercussions – including problems experienced by Cyprus, Greece, France and Spain among others – as a result of not voting? Or is it more worth it to concentrate on achievements ranging from job creation and consolidation of social services within a stable economy to pleasant landscaped surroundings and open spaces for all? Is it worth putting at risk all these accomplishments including Malta’s international reputation and, last but not least, our values?

The electorate is still in time to eliminate these risks and guarantee a secure future for all.
