Thank you. Change has come to St Paul’s Bay.

Local councils elections are over and I couldn’t be more satisfied with the Labour Party’s performance in my native St Paul’s Bay.

For the first time ever we managed change and took the mayorship of our resort town. Although not among the elected, I am proud and honoured to have been invited to form part of this fantastic team of candidates.

On the Labour side, seven were elected but the whole team will stay and work together throughout the full term of office. Each of us committed him/herself to concrete promises. Elected or not, it will still be our goal to deliver on these commitments.

Change has come to St Paul’s Bay and all candidates aim to work for the locality

And we will deliver.

I personally want to thank all voters who invested their preference in me... not much actually, just over 100 votes, but very loyal. Apart from my family, close friends and testimonials, over 60 per cent of my vote came from a women-sponsored block vote, across party barrier. This is really appreciated and should be the way forward to boost gender equality in politics.

Once again, this election confirmed that the St Paul’s Bay community is still divided in two distinct societies and all local councils to date contributed dearly to maintain this situation. To date, the council was an expression of the conservative closed society of the village core. It is no wonder that the cosmopolitan, new peripheries participate minimally in these elections.

This would be our greatest challenge. For us Labourites, St Paul’s Bay falls between Burmarrad and Mistra Bay and is not limited from L-Għażżelin to Il-Menqa.

It is now time to embark on my next project, representing Malta in the Eurotopique in Tourcoing France, with an original Maltese drama. Wish me luck.
