Every evening, I walk several blocks to my gym in my locality, carrying a recycling bag to pick up the trash that I come across on my way there.
It’s indeed pathetic that citizens throw their trash in the streets. This problem does not require a high-tech, expensive solution. It’s only a matter of educating the public.
It’s amazing how many unsightly cans, wrappers and bottles you can pick up with little or no extra effort.
I suggest that we can start by educating and giving more importance to children in their schools. We should tell them what happens to the litter they dump rubbish outdoors.
Another way is by making more and better use of commercials both on television and also in the social media.
I suggest that by educating people not to litter and make them realize what the results of littering can be, at some point they will start doing what they are encouraged to do through such campaigns.
Of course, more funds by the government could contribute to improve the situation even by providing more bins in roads, more recycling signs, refurbish pavements and have more gardens, parks and public areas.
