A labour of love by the Fenech family, in collaboration with authors and former George Fenech students Joseph Paul Cassar and Lino Borg, The Art and Life of George Fenech 1926-2011 takes readers on a comprehensive journey through Fenech’s life as a child, as a young man, a husband, a father and a teacher, with a commentary on how these different stages of life reflected in his works.
The book also features a critique of the artist’s different genres and an analysis of his artistic development, going back to his early days painting at his parents’ home in Mellieħa, to his studies at the Accademia di Belle Arti in post-war Rome, and over three decades of work at his own studio in Mellieħa, where he cemented his career as one of the most respected artists in Malta.
The book is illustrated with over 500 plates which vividly portray the artist’s life along with hundreds of his works, from still-life to portraits to idyllic countryside landscapes.
It is available for €70: a percentage of proceeds will be donated to the Malta Community Chest Fund and Arka Foundation in Gozo.
Pre-orders for The Art and Life of George Fenech 1926–2011 are being accepted on the artist’s revamped website at a special price until Wednesday.
The 384-page publication will be officially released during the inauguration of an exhibition bearing the same title, at the National Museum of Fine Arts, in Valletta, on Friday.
