The letter by Charles Bonnici (The Sunday Times, September 30, 2012) brought the disapproval and condemnation of many to the merciless killing of pigeons in Balluta. Comments varied from those questioning public safety and those militating the maintaining of animal welfare.
While strongly agreeing with both arguments I must add that as such pigeons were not wild in a natural sense of the word, and may have belonged to somebody or else to the public, such practice is prohibited by law. In fact Article 340 (a) of the Criminal Code (Chapter 9-Laws of Malta) states: “Every person is guilty of a contravention against property who shoots doves or pigeons, other than wild doves or pigeons, belonging to any other person”.
Although it’s definitely not my pigeon to investigate, someone should see what action should be taken against the perpetrators of such an action.
