Stanley J. Clews’ Atheists Who Converted (November 11) recalls that soldier who happened to be a declared atheist. Mr Clews points out how, later on, this soldier was badly injured during battle, losing a leg, and everyone around could hear him, in great agony, suddenly moaning the words: “Mother, mother! Oh God help me!”

I would like to bring to Mr Clews’ attention that just because in utterly painful desperation the poor man was screaming out for God’s help, with all due respect, that doesn’t prove God’s existence. Far from it, if anything, it proves the opposite.
