They say that the years pass much faster as you get older and it’s certainly true in my case. In fact, instead of counting years I have taken to counting only unscheduled power cuts, which Enemalta says occur on these islands only once every five years.
On that basis, if I had been born in January this year, I would be celebrating my 125th birthday shortly – probably next week.
(The latest blackout, at least, at the time of writing, occurred on Friday morning. It lasted for a mere four hours.)
I think the least that Enemalta can do is foot the bill for the catering ordered on my upcoming unscheduled birthday.
But I’d suggest that the cooking is done in a wood-burning oven, just in case...
