On Monday, I left home at 10.10am to take the number 62 bus to Valletta. As soon as I was nearing the ‘Luret’ bus stop, I spotted a bus stationary there. I ran towards it and the driver told me the vehicle had developed a mechanical failure.

Within a couple of minutes, bus 62 to Valletta arrived. In four/five minutes we arrived at the Qormi park-and-ride. The driver left the bus at 10.20am, with the engine running, and went inside an office. Another driver came over at 10.25am and we arrived safely at Valletta.

I wanted to take the 11.15am bus to Siġġiewi but, to my dismay, the female driver informed me the bus had a mechanical fault and we just had to wait.

Within 65 minutes, I had witnessed two breakdowns and a driver’s irresponsible action when a bus was left at Qormi park-and-ride unattended and with the engine running.

No wonder commuters are resorting to their private vehicles.
