In their Advent pastoral letter the Maltese bishops lovingly urge the Christian community to reflect on the love of God to whom we are bound with integrity and justice, with tenderness and love.

They speak of advent as a providential time to discover and live our faith as an active relationship of love built upon our loyalty towards God who gave us all things to enjoy life to the full if we seek Him.

This can only take place if there is a change of heart because an active relationship begins at the level of the heart and challenges the heart to open up more and more, to overflow with the love of God. We have to find time to listen to the voice of God so as not to be enslaved by false ideologies which then block this genuine flow of love.

The bishops beautifully use the metaphor of Christ’s love for the Church and for us as the love of a bridegroom for his bride while accentuating the blessing of a couple truly in love. It is when we absorb this deep significance that we can live as witnesses to this great incomparable love.
