Joe Bugeja (The Sunday Times of Malta, July 14) wishes to be reminded what the Victorians (and others) did for Malta. How about the aquifer, aquaducts, sewage disposal, trains, piped gas and an electricity supply?

I expect that even the ‘traditional’ house has an element of British design, particularly the use of steel beams supporting stone slabs, as something similar is seen in British buildings of a similar age.
