It is sad that some international media entities in the West are failing in their duty to report objectively on the Ukrainian crisis. They parrot claims that Crimea was annexed.

This is legally incorrect.

Crimea decided on independence, then requested to be integrated with Russia.

It is integration not annexation, in the same way Malta would have been integrated with the UK if the 1958 referendum had so decided.

As for the other breakaway regions in eastern Ukraine, international law is clear in that the re-solution of conflicts needs to be referred to the International Court of Justice.

Kiev is breaking international law by resorting to violence and sending in the military to crush these breakaway states rather than taking the matter to the ICJ..

I find it both heartbreaking and shocking that the western hemisphere is refusing to do the right thing by insisting that all hostilities from Kiev should cease and the matter referred to the ICJ or settled amicably, failing which they would impose sanctions.

Instead, they impose sanctions on Russia, while the US offers military hardware to Kiev. Meanwhile criticism of the western policy on Ukraine by highly-esteemed European statesmen is rarely covered by the media.

I feel ashamed to see the EU turning a blind eye to Kiev in the resolution of this dispute.

I love Europe and its culture, and I am proud to be European, but I am deeply saddened by the way the Ukrainian crisis is being handled by our larger European brothers. And whatever became of the Monroe Doctrine, when US President Monroe declared that the US would not meddle in the affairs of European countries?

How he must be turning in his grave, as would James Madison, Thomas Jefferson and so many great lights of the past.
