Written by Bertolt Brecht and set to the music of Kurt Weill, The Threepenny Opera proved to be a milestone of 20th century musical theatre, even inspiring now famous musicals like Cabaret and Chicago and giving birth to immensely popular song Mack the Knife.

The latest in Spazju Kreattiv’s Encore series, this is a live capture of the National Theatre in London’s version, a vivid and darkly comic new adaptation by award-winning playwright Simon Stephens starring Rory Kinnear as Macheath, or Mack the Knife.

■ The Threepenny Opera is screening at the cinema at St James Cavalier in Valletta tomorrow at 6.30pm. It is suitable for those aged 15 and over.
