The first phase of the Migration Museum set up at Dar l-Emigrant in Valletta should be completed by the end of the year, the Emigrants’ Commission said.

The long-awaited museum on migration from the Maltese islands is being set up on the initiative of the commission, established to assist emigrants in their preparation for a new life abroad and to retain a close relationship with their relatives in Malta.

The initial part of the first phase of the project will include a full embellishment of the hall.

Work will then move on to installing a central information podium and an interactive system which would display a large number of items and present information.

Visitors may browse through the digitised information by using hand gestures over the various screens.

The Emigrants’ Commission has entrusted Exalta Group with the project.

The agreement for this first phase of the museum was signed at Dar l-Emigrant by Mgr Philip Calleja and Fr Alfred Vella on behalf of the Emigrants’ Commission, and Ryan Mallia on behalf of Exalta.
