I am bemused at all the criticism of, and in-fighting among, the MFA and the Malta team and supporters. Only a few years ago any opposing team would have been disappointed to go away without scoring double figures against Malta.

I thought our team had their moments against England, even though the home team gave the impression that they were going through a training session and barely broke into a sweat.

Anyone who watched the Italians’ performance (with their perpetual lucky streak) versus Spain, with similar ball possession ratio and complete lack of penetration, would have concluded that Malta’s comparatively less experienced team had a good result and performed a good damage limitation exercise, thanks to my man of the match – goalkeeper Andrew Hogg, who potentially reduced the final score by about three or four goals at least.

Keep it up lads. It was a proud moment to listen to the playing of the Maltese national anthem prior to the match.
