The name Glowtones may not have infiltrated the local music scene just yet, and that’s largely because this band is actually based in London.

Behind the name however, lies a very strong Maltese connection nonetheless. All three of its members have, in fact, performed here in the past, during the 13th edition of Teatru Unplugged back in 2010 as part of the band Fraser.

Since that time the band went on to release an album, A Garden at the Top of the Tree, and record the song No, Don’t Wait with Brit Awards Critics Choice 2013 winner Tom O’Dell. While both are now available as a free download via Bandcamp, the band is no more, its three Maltese members, namely Fraser Gregory, Mark Iavarone and Daniel Muscat, going on to form the aforementioned Glowtones.

Under their new moniker, Glowtones have honed their collective talents into a sound that they describe as indie-pop with a hint of electronica.

“Our first release, Secret, took about two years to finish,” the band said in a comment. “We recorded it in three studios located in two countries, and finally had it mixed in Italy.”

Despite being based in London, Glowtones has all the credentials of a Maltese band, more so considering that the even the artwork and photography for the single were done by fellow ‘Maltesers’ Chris Bianchi and Xirley Calleja.

“We are also working with UK-based producers,” the band added. “This band has a different energy and feel to what we were doing in Fraser; we want to instil an upbeat feel, especially when we play live, and make people move.”
