For committed Catholics it is extremely important to know what the Church founded by Christ teaches about certain moral matters. Thus, regarding divorce, the Catholicism of the Catholic Church teaches that “divorce is a grave offence against natural law. Contracting a new union, even if it is recognised by civil law, adds to the gravity of the rupture: the remarried spouse is then in a situation of public and permanent adultery” (2384).

Regarding homosexual acts, the Catechism affirms that “basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of great depravity, tradition has always declared that ‘homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered’. They are contrary to the natural law. Under no circumstances can they be approved”. Regarding homosexuals themselves it then goes on to say that they “must be accepted with respect, compassion and sensitivity.

“These persons are called to fulfil God’s will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord’s Cross the difficulties they may encounter. Homosexual persons are called to chastity” (2357-2359).

Further on, the Catechism declares that “sexuality is ordered to the conjugal love of man and woman. Marriage bonds between baptised persons are sanctified by the sacrament. Sexuality is realised in a truly human way only if it is an integral part of the love by which a man and woman commit themselves totally to one another until death” (2360-2361).

Any priest, theologian or bishop who puts forward ideas contrary to these beliefs or tries to water them down is, of course, only expressing his personal opinion. Catholics who choose to follow these “wolves in sheep’s clothing” are willingly cutting themselves off from Christ’s love and mercy and endangering the eternal salvation of their soul.
