The Bubble – A Festival of Love, happening this weekend at The Elysium and the surrounding area in Għajn Tuffieħa, is hosting various activities as it celebrates contemporary art and music with a special focus on positive awareness-raising events.

A number of stages will host workshops on sustainability, the environment, dance, stand-up comedy and sound healing.

Today’s schedule sees various talks on energy efficiency by Charles Yousif from the Institute of Sustainable Energy and on volunteering, among other subjects. As regards music, there will be a contemporary dance show and a live jazz band named Chizil. DJ Alex Thompson will present a swing and house set and DJ Julian Drury will be spinning some tunes too. A swing, funk and disco set by the Society Sound System will entertain the crowd until closing time at 1am.

There will also be a performance of Brazilian martial art capoeira, a belly dance, an Indian dance show and live performances on didgeridoo, percussions and sitar.

Tomorrow, the final day of the festival, will be replete with more interesting events. Among others, there will be a number of children’s workshops on juicing, communication and dance and yoga, among other topics. There will also be a sewing class for women and a wild herb walk.

Music-wise, there will be a great mix of live performances from the likes of blues band Carroboree, jazz band Carlo Muscat Quartet, electronic band Spirit Bomb and the medieval-inspired local band Bibita, besides a new world music set.

The Bubble is a non-profit NGO which organises local events in support of humanitarian causes while supporting the environment, the arts and the community at large. The festival seeks to be an environmentally sustainable, leave-no-trace event.

This year, 50 per cent of the proceeds will go to Garden of Smiles, a women empowerment project by the Right to Smile foundation, aiming to give women in India and Kenya access to opportunities by exploring their creative potential and narrowing gender gaps in their educational system. Twenty per cent will go to The Gaia Foundation for integrated coastal zone management on the Maltese islands,  and 15 per cent to Why Not? for a new platform where more educational workshops and events will take place. The rest will be used by The Bubble NGO to set up next year’s festival.
