What would a priest do if someone came in for confession but intentionally kept a robbery that he’s still planning to himself, and then, after the robbery was completed, went to confess his sin? If he knew this, would the priest accept that as a genuine, heartfelt confession of someone who is truly remorseful?

The bishops knew of the harm they and their Church were doing in this campaign. They’ve known this for a long time. Why did they keep this to themselves until the embargo was in place? Was it damage control? It sounded more like the wrongdoer who, upon being brought before a judge, acts ever so sorry and apologetic in the hope of getting a lighter sentence.

The apology should have been made without delay, right when it was needed. Even if it risked affecting the results.
