When I was still an undergraduate, Dom Mintoff paid us an unexpected visit in the University cafeteria, where he tried reminding us of the rights his party had fought for and which we so ignorantly assume will always be there for us.
In no time at all, he was being verbally abused by a gaggle of slovenly ‘students’ who charged him – when still in office – of keeping singular and utterly indispensable individuals like themselves out of law school. Mr Mintoff weathered this hormonal
guff as much as he could but stormed out in a huff when he’d had his fill, calling us all “qtates imħallsin”.
Years later, with our midget island choked to the chinny-chin-chins with law graduates, there is now urgent talk about making the law school more difficult to get into.
This is being done in the hope of reducing the massive surplus of political prospectors trying to cram through the same door of privilege .
RIP Dom Mintoff. You always had the last laugh.
