Forensic experts are close to concluding tests on the body of drug trafficker Mario Camilleri, l-Imnieħru, who was exhumed shortly after he was murdered together with his son just over a year ago.
Mr Camilleri’s body had been exhumed for tests to be carried out on his skull to determine whether he was in fact shot in the head.
Police Inspector Chris Pullicino yesterday informed Magistrate Josette Demicoli the experts would be able to testify on their findings once their work was completed.
He asked the court whether the body could then be released to the family for reburial. The magistrate said she had no objection, though gave no indication of when this could happen.
Jason Galea, 39, from Marsa, and George Galea, 41, of St Julian’s, are accused of killing Mr Camilleri and his son, Mario, 21.
Jason Galea – Mr Camilleri’s brother-in-law – is also pleading not guilty to the murder of Matthew Zahra, 27, from Valletta. Ronald Urry, 49, of Paola is also accused of Mr Zahra’s murder.
Mr Zahra’s bones were found a year after his body was burnt and buried in a field in Birżebbuġa, where the Camilleris’ corpses were found.
