Two boys who got into a fight with a group of Swedish students will be sentenced this morning after pleading not guilty to stealing an iPhone and handling stolen property.

A third boy, 14, from Naxxar, was reprimanded by Magistrate Giovanni Grixti and sent on his way after he admitted to swearing in public and threatening the same group of students on Saturday at 11.30 p.m. in Naxxar.

His 16-year-old friend denied stealing the iPhone belonging to a member of the group and another boy, 15, denied handling stolen property.

Ebba Johanna Strom testified the phone was hers and was taken after she ran away from the three boys as a fight ensued.

She said she had come off a bus with a group of friends when they noticed the 14-year-old boy on a bicycle looking at them strangely. He stared at them, which made them feel very uncomfortable and scared.

As they tried to ignore him and walk away, a group of not more than five of his friends arrived and began harassing them, she said. At that point, one of them hit her friend and she took off running and was later told that her iPhone had dropped out of her bag and was taken by the 16-year-old.

The court postponed judgment for today and granted the boys bail on condition they appear in court this morning.

Lawyer Joseph Arrigo appeared for the 14-year-old.

Legal aid lawyer Adrian Camilleri appeared for the 15-year-old.

Lawyers Veronique Dalli and Josè Herrera appeared for the 16-year-old.
