The road to hell was paved with good intentions for one 17-year-old yesterday who was hauled to court for making false identity cards for his friends so they could all go clubbing together.

The teenager, who is not being named because he is a minor, was asked by Magistrate Neville Camilleri if he knew he could go to jail for his action.

Sheepishly nodding his head, the teenager said he did and was asked what had possessed him.

He said he made the cards so that his clique could all stay together when they went out clubbing in Paceville.

He was caught after his friends were stopped by security officers at a night club.

Defence lawyer Joseph Giglio argued that such was the folly of youth.

His client had learnt his lesson and he asked the magistrate to consider his clean police record.

The magistrate placed him under probation for three years and said he hoped there would be no repeat of his behaviour.
